Sinistar Joystick by Groovy Game Gear?

<< < (3/6) > >>

Xiaou2:

Sinistar used a special 49way - which is very different from the Happs version.

The original used a special rubber 'x'  that keeps the thing centered.  Unlike
springs,  the x shape changes the way the resistance forces work.

The further you press away from the center... the more resistance you will get,
as you are pulling 3 other legs of the spider.

In a typical analog or 49 way stick... they have the greatest resistance in
the center.  Once you move past the sticky center... it becomes very easy
to move the stick.  Too easy - as you accidentally move from center to the
very edge of the stick.

With the original stick,  Because it takes a lot more force to go from center to edge...  it makes it very easy to control the speeds much more accurately.

I made an  "x'   for an analog stick from a rubber bike tire + some
metal grommets.

And btw -  The first level Beating Sinistar  is not that hard... but trying to
beat level 2 or 3 without the proper controls will be nearly impossible.

Saitek sticks have an uniform response because the only centering spring is mounted in a way that pushes down  instead of 2 different springs (one per axis) but they are to weak the right resistance is available on the old flcs from trustmaster or the F22 they have very hard springs and is impossible to "overcontrol" (sorry but i don't' remember the English word)

Xiaou2:
Ive seen Saitek sticks method,  as Ive took one apart.    They use a method
that helps keep the transitions smooth in the middle of the stick...  where most
other sticks have issues with  (overcoming the center force)

However,   Once you are past the center to a certain degree... the resistance isnt very strong at all.

The sinistar stick has a much stronger resistance slope the further you move
outwards.

In the version I built,  I actually made it so that it took more pressure than
the original sticks... which made control even easier.

I saw on the GGG website:

"GroovyGameGear.com will soon offer it's own 49-way unit. It will be based on the opto-mechanics of the HAPP/Midway sticks, but with a number of custom parts designed specifically for the home arcade enthusiast and GP-Wiz49 interface. Did we mention it will also have a ball top?"

I wonder how the production is coming along?
