Newbie asking about Coin Doors
sray2k:
Hello,
If were to buy a coin door from Happ's, are there other parts that I would need to order ?
I am looking into this one:
http://happ.com/coindoors/40002300p.htm what about the mechanism, the switch ?? Remember I am a newbie when it comes to this stuff.
Thanks...
Scott

Well, it's not really a coin door, it's a plate assembly that would fit into certain model doors. If you just want the feeling of putting in coins, without actually having an openable door, you could still use that, but it's not really meant to be a stand alone device.
To answer your question, it comes with a $.25 mech, which is the thing that actually accepts your quarters and rejects everything else, and the exploded view shows that the assembly has the microswitch on it, so it should come ready to be hooked up, but like I said it's not really a door it's a part of one.

That's not what you want. (Unless it is, but I don't know why...)

I've used them on countertops, where they work great. I've seen a couple of "real" cabs use them, but they always look a bit strange.

That's what I'm thinking as well. If it's for a mini-cab or a bartop it would probably be fine, but it's going to look really narrow and weird on the front of a full size cabinet. Not to mention it will restrict your ability to access things inside your cabinet from the front.
Personally, I'd go with a regular coin door if it's a full cab. I also would look at eBay and dealers, instead of Happ, to find a used one.
