Design Idea - Expanding Modular Control Panel

I have some drawers from IKEA which don't have any wobble in them, no matter which way you pull them. But I haven't heard of anyone using pull out drawers except for hidden keyboards, so I don't know how sturdy they are.

I used these a few times for other projects. They are very strong and very little wobble. They ones I got were the 100 lb pair. I would think they would be good for what you want but the company has stronger one but they are more expensive. You can get them in what ever length you need.

I like the idea. But it would ahve to be super sturdy... which I would have questions about... unless you souped it up.
But consider this. why modulize the box on the side? You coudl just have a modular plugin on the side that you attach... And add to that? It should be much sturdier to just clamp something on, then to transform it.
but the coolness factor would make it... useable or not.

Go for it!! I'd love to see someone give it a shot.
Of course, you should motorize the entire thing and have it automatically expand to the 4 player configuration when a 4 player game is selected from the front end. You could even have a voice tell you to "install the trackball panel" or something completely ridiculous.

You could inset the top flaps or slightly raise the control modules to that the are flush, mating them with 45° angles or rabbeting.

That was my thought. 3/8" flaps and the modules routed 3/8" so the flaps will end up flush with the top of the modules. Or leave the flaps 3/4", but raise the modules on feet to go under the flaps, something like _|-----|_ except the "---" flush with the top of the "|"s.
