Did I just get ripped off?
More Cowbell:
I used 3/4" mdf for the sides of my machine, but 5/8" for everything else (top, back, bottom, front, etc.) That way I could have the sides cut at Lowe's when I bought them to make them more manageable, and bought the 2'x4' sheets of 5/8" for the rest (since they didn't have the full sheets). I think it ran me close to $100 for all of it.
RetroGreg:
3/4" 4 x 8 MDF is about $27 at Lowe's in my area (Phoenix).
paulscade:
Here in South Florida, I paid $28.99 for (1) 4' x 8' sheet of 5/8" MDF.
I had to special order it from 84 Lumber.
RoninEditor:
Yup, you got ripped off. I got mine at Home Depot, 3/4", three sheets, and it was $90 and change (which includes the tax). I should be $25-$30 a sheet, definitely not $40. It's just sawdust and resin, no excuse for those prices. Getting the $30 might not be worth the effort of hauling it all back (that 'ish' is heavy!), but see if they can price match, based on your receipt. They might actually. If they don't, assuming they don't have a policy against it, threaten to bring it all back if they don't price match.
leapinlew:
You ripped yourself off. :(
You should have asked how much a special order was going to cost. Live and learn. This should be a lesson to everyone - assume nothing when ordering something that isn't in stock.
