I did the D&D/AD&D thing in high school too. Used to get together with some friends once a week and played. Still have all my stuff (all the D&D rules, modules, the AD&D players and dungeon masters handbooks), packed away somewhere. Not sure why I've kept it, I haven't really had any interest in going back and using it.

I played Heroquest a few times. Does that count?

Sure.  I dont remember if they used the same stats and what not but the mechanics should be the same.  If you still have heroquest it goes for quite a bit on ebay so take care of it.

I know unfortunately. I had one that I bought myself when i was a kid. It was difficult to get enough people to play to make it worthwhile. Also, I had to commit to being Zargon, which means I can't ever play the hero characters again. Anyways, I sold my game in mint condition at a rummage sale for like $10 when I was 18 or so. The original board game isn't near as valuable as the add-on packs.

Having said that, if you liked Hero-quest then play the Buffy the Vampire Slayer board game. It is really fun, and has the same basic gameplay.

Just heard about his death.  :'(  I got a bunch of his stuff including his fiction books. His books about Gord do not follow the the LOTR style. Don't forget the old D&D TV show.
Or his queen of the drow adventures that inspired R.A. Salvsdor. Or his greyhawk campain. and so on...
