Convert old SNES Arcade Controller to Mame?

(1/3) > >>

PhoneLine:
Hey all,

Recently was cleaning out a closet and pulled out my old SNES.  With it I found two arcade controllers I had purchased when SF2 first came out for the SNES.

Was able to find them after searching on google fo a bit...:

From what I remember these said at the time that they used real arcade parts, but being about 13, they just looked awesome and I wanted them instead of the joypads   :D

Anyone ever gutted these?  I'm curious if I was to get myself an ipac, if I could transfer both of them into a new 2 player controller for mame.

Seems they have enough buttons for my needs.  Joystick, 6 buttons and a start and select.  Start can stay start and select can be for credits.

Anyone know if it could be done, before I crack em open for no reason?  Not like I really plan on hooking up the snes anyways....   ;)

Also, for this setup (just simple two players) whats best, Ipac or mini?  I've been trying to gather up info, but my cabinet now just has a quad from slikstik on it, so this would be my first time making my own (from existing pieces)  :)

Appreciate any info!

Thanks

could you use one of these?

DaveMMR:
I was about to post something similar.

Yeah, no need to hack anything (as a matter of fact, I'd leave it as is).  Use the adapter Boris pointed out.

Sir Auros:
I'm interested in getting some USB cables to use some of my old gamepads on my cabinet, but does anyone know of a place where they're cheaper than $22? I remember Lik-Sang used to have some for less (even with shipping), but they're out of business now.

Pretty cool, thanks!

Anyone have any experience with these?  I'm curious as to how it assigns the buttons.  Will it show up as a joystick, and if so, will that work for me with mame?  I'm only use to dealing with mame where the joysticks and buttons are emulating keyboard strokes.

Thanks.
