magstik balltop removal...
fixedpigs:
i want to take off my magstik's balltop...but it doesn't seem to want to come off...
i put a wrench on the 'nut' part of the shaft and went to turn the ball counter-clockwise...i heard a slight noise and stopped...
are they epoxied onto the shaft or use red loctite or something...?
has anyone been successful in removing the balltop from a magstik...?
thanks in advance...

I wanted to change the color of a mag ball top and contacted Andy at Ultimarc about it. He said they don't come off. I think the plastic ball is molded around a groove at the top of the shaft rendering it permanently attached.
You might be able to hack the red ball off, thread the top of the shaft and use another ball. This wasn't something I really wanted to try myself though, so let me know how it goes. ;)

that's kind of lame...i wanted to mount it with the dustwasher underneath my overlay... :dunno

I think I misunderstood you. ??? Do you want to remove the ball from the stick or the whole thing from the base? If it's the latter, it can be done. There should be an exploded diagram of the stick on ultimarc's site. Have you checked it out?
EDIT: Here's the link to the exploded view:

You should be able to spin that nut right off. It's a locknut, right? The plastic lined type?
Forget it. After looking at mine, I see that there's no way to do what you want to do.

i want to remove the ball from the shaft...i already have the shaft apart from the base...
( _) <---- ball top

my plexi would have to go in between the balltop and the dustwasher...can't happen if the balltop doesn't come off... :(
