games available to be played on cabs
Arcade Freak:
hi folks,
the games that are available to be played on a original nintento or super-nintento or playstation 1-2-3 and xbox or 360. Are all these games available to be played via a computer? If so, is there an emu for each console? i know they have for nes and snes...but what about the new stuff...like xbox 360 and playstation 3.
Then the emu they have for snes for exemple...does that mean that EVERY game ever made for the snes as been crack to be played via emu.
Is there a list of all the games that have been crack?
cheers.

Emulation is so popular now that you can safely say that every single gaming console will (eventually) have an emulator created for it, or at least attempted. Cutting edge consoles like the 360 and ps3 will certainly lag behind in development because:
a) these are brand new, typically undocumented-to-the-public machines that are being emulated
b) heavy amounts of security layers have to be broken through
c) the consoles run so fast that you would need an incredibly powerful PC in order to emulate them at speed. (I believe the rule of thumb is that the emulator has to be running at a minimum of 5x the CPU speed of the system being emulated)
Emulation is about preserving outdated consoles for history/nostalgia. If you are trying to play current generation consoles, you will be disappointed.

I think it is safe to say that every or virtually every SNES game is playable via emulation now. It's not so much that the games themselves had to be cracked, but the emulators themselves had to emulate whatever tiny tricks the game developers used to make sure the game was legit, so any lists of compatibility would be per emulator. Some emulators play certain games better than others, so you'll just have to explore.

Arcade freak, you understand that copying games is illegal right? It's one thing when we're talking about long-dead arcade games (still not legal), but for current consoles, why don't you just buy them? A 360 game takes up many gigabytes anyways (9gb?) so it's not like you can store very many on a harddrive anyways.
Kajoq:
9gb isn't that much when you consider a 500gb HD is only 100 bucks now ; )
Anyways, Emulation is basically 100% up to PS1, with PS2 emulation still largely in development.

its only illegal if you plan on selling it or distribute it...if you wish to copy it for a personal backup then it is totally legal.
;D
