Remote startup for laptop

(1/3) > >>

ptpeter:
Hi.

I posted a similar question in the Juke forum, but it rarely gets much traffic, so I feel like I'll get a quicker answer here. I'm looking to use a laptop in a juke, but I would prefer to not have to take the laptop out each time to start it. Is there a way where I can remotely start it so I can keep it in the juke 24/7? Thanks in advance.

Peter

You mean like a power switch?

I've got my plastic shell off my laptop right now and the power switch, despite being a SMT component, looks like it has some pretty easy solder points to tap into. On mine, it looks like (without taking the frame out) the switch is on a daughter board, so there's probably a tap point somewhere along the line.

Or are you looking for something else? Like a boot on power failure type of thing?

ptpeter:
thanks for the info.

I'm kind looking to see if I can keep my laptop together and keep the cover closed but to have the ability to remotely turn on my laptop in the cabinet.

You can always do something kind of low tech and rig up a button or something with a rod that's lined up with the laptop's power button.

ptpeter:
true, but if the cover is closed on the laptop its kinda hard to do that. In my Inspirions case.
