If your kids have been saving FOR A YEAR to buy something, and you know it's going to run out of stock, be a good parent and HAVE ONE STASHED.

so you are saying that you are only a good parent if you always buy a kid what they want, whether the deserve/earn it or not.

I had to do it.  I did turn myself in, if that makes a difference, so it wouldn't stay around long.

Erm, that's not what he said.  He's saying ensure that your kids are going to reap the reward of their dilligent saving, given that the odds are they're not going to be able to find the Wii when the time comes.  Buy it, hide it, and when they reach their goal give them their reward.  It's not a bad idea.

so you've become the voice for PBJ now huh?

guess I'm doing it wrong as a parent then. I would think that after they've saved and earned it for themselves. Using their own money and being taken to the store to buy it on their own, would make them feel much better about it, then them handing the money to you, you digging in the closet, pulling it out, and saying "here ya go. I know how bad you wanted this, you've worked hard to earn it, and I've had one hidden here all this time". They would also learn that not every thing is as easy to obtain as they would think.

but then again, I don't freak out if my kids don't have the latest and greatest that the consumerism demands are the must haves. They get it when we get around to getting it.
