Mameroom Designs now taking orders for control panels!

People build things man, that's the whole idea here to do it yourself for the most part, no?  Get yourself a piece of mdf or any kind of wood and cut it out and drill holes for a setup you planned out and how you like it. I guess i can see people with no skills wanting to buy it all done up but that's not the spirit of this site to me. Taking pride and building and setting it up with your own hands and labor is all the fun and what makes it all better than something you just buy.

Surly this is not a foreign concept to grasp and that's all i meant.

Loafmeister:
It's not a foreign concept, but getting the wood part done by people who know what they're doing still leaves the putting together of wiring/buttons/the initial layout, etc to the user so it certainly still requires people to "do it themselves".

It's cool to have your opinion, no problem with that, but your statement seemed out of line as somewhat judgemental and as you can see from the response, not representative of many who are members here.

Personally, I'm considering this as an option.  Do-it-myself?  Man, I just do NOT have the talent... I do find these services to be somewhat expensive considering it's just wood and holes (for a couple of hundred bucks if I understood correctly?  Ouch!) but for good work, no price is too big, and of course, I know there's more to it than wood/holes :).

Everyone has their own particular skill sets.  For me, I find the woodworking part daunting (and nearly impossible since I not only lack space for a work room, but have no tools and very little woodworking skill).  On the other hand, I think it will be fun to install the buttons, joysticks, trackball, etc. and then wiring the whole thing up.  I'm just going to buy a control panel blank to give the project a jump start (of course this may or may not happen depending on if I receive my refund from SlikStik).

Since the SlikStik fiasco, I have no intention of ordering a pre-built controller, but that was my first choice.

Hey, I would absolutely LOVE to build my own cabinet and my own control panel but I simply am not able to.  I have no garage, and MDF is an absolute mess to work with.  Electronics and wiring doesn't phase me at all.  I've built many computers and done many wiring jobs which have all turned out fantastic.  It's the wood-working that I CAN'T do because I have no space, no urge to cover the entire inside of my house so that the dust doesn't cake onto everything, and no tools with which to do the damned thing.

That is why I'm having someone build my arcade cabinet shell and once that's built I'll be looking to put together a control panel for it.  Again, it would be MUCH cheaper and MUCH more fun to do it myself, but I simply don't have the ability to do it.
