what is best way to sort your favorite mame
Kangum:
the mame set is overkill for me so id like to pick my favorite top 100 and get rid of the rest. the trouble is i know if i just start yanking roms i will run into dependency issues. i could look them up at maws but it seems like there must be an easier way.
what is the easiest way to do this or how did you handle it. surely not everyone is using the whole set all the time.
javeryh:
Try romlister. You tell it what controls you have and it spits out a gamelist.
shardian:
IIRC, clrmamepro can add a tag to files you don't want. Such as when clearing out adult games, you can either choose to delete them, or just add a tag to the filename.
hbm*rais:
I used a program called MCM: MAME Content Manager (http://www.mameworld.net/mcm/).
I used it mainly to remove clones, non-working games and mahjong games. You can also remove adult games, games that use controls you don't have, etc...
I would strongly advise against keeping just your favorite games on your machine. One of the great pleasures of this hobby is finding out the unknown gems, the games you never heard about.
Most front ends allow you to easily switch between "Favorites" and "All Games" mode so that you can use a more manageable list of games but at the same time keep all the rest at hand.
Kangum:
they both look like nice alternatives. what you suggest is certainly easier then what i was thinking of doing. plus there is no worrys of gee i should have really added that one game. thanks for the advice. i will look at content manager and romlister. i cant do much until retroblast site comes back online. they have the utility that opens up more catagorys.
