Nope, they are totally different.

Well, I don't think that's *ENTIRELY* accurate. IIRC, they are the same roms, but they have different file names. I believe I had to go in and just rename the MAME roms to correspond to what vivanonno was looking for (which I think was in the readme file, or one of the other files that comes with vivanonno). So unless I'm remembering it incorrectly, you just need to take the time to rename the ones it sounds like you already have.

Am I missing something? Here's the contents of rv2.zip for vivanonno:

Seems like an awful lot of work when the vivanonno roms are easy to find. Maybe not. Easy enough to change the extension to "bin" with one command and then hand rename several to put a dash in the appropriate spot. On the other hand, there's only two roms to download, taking a couple of minutes.

No, you're right, it was more work than it needed to be. But my point was just that you *CAN* use the MAME roms if that's what you have.
On a similar topic, and bringing the discussion back to Mjolnir, does anyone know if there's something I need besides the MAME roms to play Starblade? Seems like that's all you'd need, since Mjolnir is a MAME derivative, but I can't get it to work. I get the dos box popping up, but it closes so quickly that I can't read it to see what the error is!

Check the mjolnir forum for more information.

Yeah, that did it. Thanks!
With that, I can say that, with Mjolnir, both Starblade and Propcycle work very smoothly on my old P4 1.8 gHz Dell. Far better than under MAME .119: no stuttering, no choppiness, nothing. The emulator's looking great so far!
