Cheap Steering Wheel at Target
atarihomestar:
I can't get it to work for Road Blasters (a game I loved playing at the arcade.) It's like it thinks I'm either cranked hard left or hard right.
Red:
Can you operate the gas/brake without using the pedals? Also, does the wheel seem cheap to you or is it pretty sturdy? Thanks.

I think you can set it up in mame if you want to use keys or pedals for the gas/brake. I'll check tonight when I get home. Also, I was really surprised at how sturdy the wheel felt. I think it's about 5 pounds, and the wheel doesn't feel like some hollow hard plastic tube. If I could figure out how to get it to work with Road Blasters, I'd give it an enthusiastic thumb way up. Everybody else seems to think that it's working great, so I think it's probably just some setting I'm not setting correctly.
Oh, also, the wheel doesn't go more than all the way around. I think it's like if you look at the wheel, you can turn 12 o'clock down to 6 o'clock either way (to the right or left) and as you get closer to 6, you seem to get more and more resistance. It feels pretty good to me. I'm not totally positive about the fact that it only goes 1 complete revolution. Once again, I'll check when I get home.

I'll check this when I get home and report back.

That's right, it's not a 360 degree optical wheel, so you can't keep spinning it around and around and around. As such, while you can use it to play Pole Position, it's not a 100% authentic arcade experience. It's more appropriate for games like Rave Racer and the like, where the wheel matches the one used in an arcade.
Still, for the ridiculously low price, it's sure close enough for me, at least until I get around to building the driving panel with the old Pole Position wheel I picked up awhile back. But the Nascar wheel will still be useful for the 270 degree games!
