Sega Naomi games working in MAME?
arcadecab:
I have not updated my mame set for awhile, but I noticed that several Sega Naomi games were added to the rom list around 0.114 or 0.115. They seemed to be listed as preliminary, but just wondering if these games, in particular, Virtua NBA are at all playable using the latest version of MAME? If not, how long until you think these games will be playable with MAME? What size processor will be needed to run them at full speed?
Thanks.

No
7 years (plus or minus one order of magnitude)

Okay, maybe the last one is a little bit of an exaggeration ;D, but the Naomi had a 32 bit RISC CPU running @ 200 MHz, a tile based video chip @ 100 MHz (no current PC GPUs do it this way), and a sound system that used a RISC CPU @ 45 MHz. Even if you use the very bad estimate of needing 20x to emulate, that's almost 7 GHz just for these three parts.

Actually wasnt there a tile based PC video card a few years back? Completely bombed of course. Name escapes me.

Was it the Videologic VividXS Kyro 2?
Circo:
Since the Naomi was Dreamcast based and Dreamcast emulation is coming along so nicely these days, do you really think it will take that long???
