HD cable, SATA to IDE??

Even inf you could, I don't see the point of buying a SATA drive to use it at IDE speeds.

maybe it is just a matter of he has a sata drive and doesnt want to buy a new one.

A better option would be a sata pci card.  Then you could have the speed of sata on the computer you are using.
