KeyWiz Help Me Please
BobA:
Did you assign the buttons to MAME defaults? If not have you changed MAME to your mapping?
Kevin Mullins:
A. Make absolutely sure your mapping matches like BobA mentioned.
B. Make sure the KeyWiz software is starting FIRST and launching MAME from there.
DaOld Man:
If you wire the buttons to the default mame terminals on the keywiz, you wont have to use the re-mapping software at all.
The mame defaults are:
Player 1-- number 1
Player 2-- number 2
Player 1 action button 1- left ctrl
" " " " 2-Left ALT
" " " 3-Left shift.
The keywiz already has these defaults as well as player two defaults. Just wire to the right terminals and that should be all you need to do.
You can connect any way you want, then use the uploader program, but the computer boots a lot faster if you just use the default terminals and forget the uploader program.
If you need something to launch your front end, a bat file in the start up folder should work, or you can use my "The Launcher" program. Let me know if you are interested, I can post a link to it.

I was getting the same error. Make sure when you get to the launch portion of your custom key config that you are not launching the uploader again. I think it defaults to that folder and that is the only executable in there. I picked that and was having nothing but problems. You want to select no application or select the executable for your frontend of choice. I think what is happening is it's loading your custom set and when that is done your are starting the uploader again which is bombing out since it's still running the keywiz is going to the defaults.

So far....don't forget, KeyWiz eco..lots of stripping and solder involved, should have thrown down for the $ one, but too late for that. Also using the MAME 32 Front End. Is that bad? Can anyone recommend one that is EASY to install?
BobA
I changed the mappings in the uploader proggy, do I need to code something in MAME too?
brock.sampson
I had a shortcut (win 98) to mame in the startup folder. I removed that and put a shortcut to keywiz in the startup. Still no dice, and even though stealth mode is selected, it keeps running the keywiz software at startup
DaOldMan
too much solder and stripping involved to change,.....I think...
