HELP!!! mame controls not working!
hulkster:
okay, i have several friends over, and im in a predicament! help!
repeated keystrokes arent working. so basically, holding down the fire button, or pressing up on the joystick will only move or attack ONCE. so for instance...im playing ninja turtles and im trying to move my turtle up...well its like even if i hold up on the joystick, it doesnt repeat itself.
i went into notepad and held down one of the buttons, but it would only show one letter at a time. is there some kind of feature that ive turned off that doesnt allow for holding down keys?
example: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....that works by just holding it down. but on my cab, if i hold it down it only does....a.....thats it. whats the deal??

You probably disabled the key repeat in windows.
try google "key repeat xp" or something related to your os.
For example, for xp, you can adjust the key repeat by going in the
control panel -> keyboard
This is the page for more info:

SGT:
You may have enabled FilterKeys by accident.
Holding down the right SHIFT key down for 8 seconds brings up the FilterKeys dialog. Click settings and turn off FilterKeys. If holding down the right shift key doesn't produce a menu after a reasonable amount of time, it may be already running in the system tray. Click it and turn off FilterKeys.

well i googled "windows xp + key repeating" but didnt get any answers. anyway, i think i solved my problem in mame....i had my ps2 keyboard converted to usb, and it didnt like that very much apparently. i plugged back straight into the ps2 port, and rebooted, and everything was good. as for the filter keys...those were off. :dunno
also, one other problem not related to this...i tried to play smash tv, and it looked like the resolution was all messed up. every other mame game i tried was fine resolution wise, but smash tv was all outta whack. any suggestions?
NickG:
@ smash tv problem:
Horizontal frequency of Midway games on that hardware are different than the 60Hz of most games - it's somewhere between 53 and 56 Hz. This causes scrambling or rolling on some monitors unless you adjust it. For Mame, though, you just have to force 60Hz, if that's what your monitor likes. If the resolution just doesn't fit or something you gotta force a different resolution instead.
