second edition?
« on: July 04, 2007, 04:46:37 am »

saint, would you consider doing a second edition? i ask this because although what we are emulating is old, the technolgies we use constantly change. also things like software and web sites change.

I have a question, why in the book did you not address normal arcade games?  IE Jamma boards and such?  I would have loved to see a section on how to really restore a cabinet.  I know there are sites out there for that but I was just wondering. :notworthy:

Space. We already had to cut about 75 pages of material I wanted to include.

I am only about 1/4 through your book and its really good.  I am in the middle of refurbing a arcade cabinet and making it a muticade sort of speak.  I have a 1 to 4 jamma adapter card so I can plug up 4 games.  I have pit fighter, street fighter 2 and area 51/Maximum force right now.  I noticed in the book that you said you could not use the Happ guns on regular TVs.  My plan is to buy a card which transfers the RGB signal to a regular TV set.  Would the guns work with this kind of set up?

Right now I am almost at the paint stage.  I want to start painting now but since I have a 33" cabinet system there is not enough room inside the cabinet to house all the cards so I have to build a box to house them.  I was thinking of creating sliders inside the box and placeing the PCBs onto a 1/4 inch boards so I can slide them in and out.  I also still need to purchase a few computer fans to keep everything running cool as I heard the area 51 PCBs do heat up.  Still so much work to do yet.  I really need to get busy.  I hope to knock some of it out today but it is raining so building the box is out.  But I can prep everything else for paint and repair all the chips and scratches with wood putty.

Saint,

I would - I just don't think my publisher would :)

Loved the book.  Have you considered a 2nd edition as an eBook?  Maybe your publisher would be interested if there are no printing costs involved.

I am a big fan of the book but that so much of the info is dated. It's very well written I just it was more current.

new publisher? self-publish?

I don't own the copyright. I wrote it, but they retain the copyright for several years...

It wouldn't be very intelligent to write an E-Book for MAMErs.  They aren't exactly great at respecting intellectual property rights.  It would be in the ROM circles in minutes.

Saint I hate to say it but your book has already been made into an ebook.  it's already in the rom circles/ scene if you know where to look.  it's sad to see hard work given no respect.

unfortunately with all the release groups now it's a losing battle at some point in the future printed books will be a thing of the past and DRM protected digital files/ books will be the only thing available plus I'm sure it's alot cheaper for the publisher as no actual printing is involved.
