On a day like this, all we can do is sit here and sip a Bartles and James, and thank you for your support.

Not nearly as bad as I thought he'd look.  I have renewed hope for this flick.

Actually, I did look back at some movie shots. Sure, you can tell it's him, and he looks fine for his age....but...how to say this?....he looks different. I mean, of course he does, and his character's setting will match this. As it should be.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did a little digital cosmetic work on him, like they did with Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart in X-Men 3.

I agree, as long as Lucas has nothing to do with the script.  :P

They did digital stuff to them in X-men? They looked old, too. And even in the first one (I think it was) in the close-ups, you could tell Stewart had used an electric razor. Anyways, my concern in the Indiana Jones saga has been the story. Raiders was supreme (it even had cussing and it was only PG!).

Temple of Doom blew so hard it was in the gutter of the red light district. "Mola Ram will rule the world!"....um, yeah, okay. Some local African yokel in some bum ---fudgesicle--- tribe with some stones of Kali...sure. Then the dutzy blonde and the stupid-ass kid rounding out the Disney element. They learned their lesson before the next one. Crusade was analogous to (the later, actually) Star Trek VI relative to II: a close second...maybe closer, even.

But, in this day and age, one can only guess. Besides, what's left of mondo Christian artifacts? Not that it has to be from there, it just has to be something big.

Lucas had a lot to do with all the other scripts. He did actually write them.

As far as being a writer he IS good. He only sucks as a director.

Spielberg is the director on this one so all should be fine.
Now in a tasty new flavour.

They did more than digital work, they gave McKellan a whole chest piece so you couldn't see his man-boobs!  :o

While I'm sure Lucas had a lot to say and probably rewrote a good chunk of the script, officially he's just the producer.  The writer is David Koepp, who has written a few (arguably) good movies (such as the first Mission: Impossible, Jurassic Park, and Spiderman)

Imop,  Temple of Doom  was the best of them all.

More entertaining and interesting.  More characters.  More action, depth, laughs, drama.
Better storyline,  better environmental settings (highly detailed and artisticly composed
sets)  .. and so much more.

Ohh, and BTW.. the Evil Priest wasnt african...  But I believe instead
was indian.  Theres a huge difference in case you didnt realize.

The last movie they did, nearly puts me to sleep every time.

Try watching 2 and 3 back to back.  Theres no comparison.  2 trounces 3
any day of the week.

 Great Moments is Doom:

-  Room of Bugs
- "Money Brains"  Dinner of bugs/brains
- Short Round cheating at cards, running away from belly dancers,
- Indy confidently going to draw his pistol when 2 swordsmen come, but not having a pistol to draw
- Mine Car Ride
- The crazy asian guy using a Gatling gun screaming with joy in the beginning of the film
- Indy so confidently thinking he escaped Lao... when he was aboard Lao's aircraft!
- Guy cleverly disguised as a wall painting
- The singer throwing the snake.
- The singer thinking Indy was after her.. when he was searching for a passageway
- Indy shooting a rock at the Slave Driver that was whipping a kid.
- Indy chasing the antidote
- and much more..

 Lets see..  Crusade:
- Dad and Son argue while in a burning room?   Sorry, not amusing, interesting, nor
funny.

He actually wrote the story or treatments of the Indiana Jones Films - which is pretty much the outline of the film and its characters. The screenplays (I.E. Shooting Script) are all credited to other writers. Lucas can definitely come up with good ideas for movies, but most of his dialog just plain stinks.

Regardless, I've got my fingers crossed for one last good adventure with Dr. Jones.

I too find Temple a better flick than Crusade. Crusade was good, but not enough crazy supernatural stuff was happening on the whole throughout the film, at least until the ending. So many great lines in Temple too:

Indiana Jones: Let them go, or I drop the stones!
Mola Ram: [laughs] Drop them, Dr. Jones! They will be found, you won't.

Short Round: Hey, Doctah Jones, no time fo' love. We got company!

Willie: Ooh, what big birds!
Indiana Jones: Those aren't big birds, sweetheart. They're giant vampire bats!

Short Round: Feels like I step on fortune cookie!
Indiana Jones: It's not fortune cookies. Let me take a look.
Short Round: That no cookie!

Willie: There are two dead people in here!
Indiana Jones: There's gonna be two dead people IN HERE! NOW HURRY!

I liked Temple a lot, but what ruined it for me was the chick.  She was so annoying I just wanted the chain to break and drop her in the pit.  Same thing with Mary Steenburgen in Back to the Future 3... please - just leave her on the train!!!

Hmm, I'm inclinded to say that you lot who liked doom, it was cos you were a bit younger, but only half of you were. I can't explain the other half. Temple is just a fantasy gig, no real archetypes (at any level; even the music is much simpler and more repetitive), and disney to round it out.

Eps I-III would have turned out better if they had better directors.

Just look at Eps 4-6.

My favourite has to be Empire *Harry ducks to avoid heavy objects being hurled in his directions and that was before I knew that Lucas didn't direct it.

Ep 4 just seemed way too stale for my liking and Ep6 had the damn Ewoks in it.
Now in a tasty new flavour.

Empire is also my fave of the series.

But it also demonstrates my point. Lucas didn't write the screenplay for Empire.  :P
He wrote or co wrote the other 5 screenplays. Also, he didn't direct Jedi.

No director on the face of the earth could have made the dialog between Anakin and Padme palatable. And WTF was up with the Chewbacca cameo? But, I digress...

Arguably, he's directed 3 good films in his career.
THX 1138
American Graffiti
Star Wars

Those were all 30+ years ago.

So perhaps we're both right.

Temple of Doom and Gremlins were the movies that prompted the MPAA to come up with the PG-13 rating.

In case you were wondering.

It's pretty crazy to think that Temple of Doom with the level of violence and gore that it had was only rated PG.

Oh, it was the 80s so that was a long time in coming. They may've just used those as leverage.

Empire: I don't know why somoene in their 30s would necessarily disagree there. I mean, Star Wars was great...but Empire was mature, in all respects: the script, the effects, them music (more romantic but still quite chromatic).

Jedi: he didn't direct it but he had some influence. The remastered version has a musical in Jaba's. I saw a quick bit where he was saying he'd always thought that would be cool, but wasn't able to pull it off the first time round. We are all fortunate for that grace.

And, totally, wherever all that dross came from that is the first (though second) trilogy....well....

*I'm fruitay and ah taste goood.....
