Does anybody play vertical games on a 19" arcade monitor mounted horizontal ?

I know this is not ideal, and that 25" or 27" will maintain close to the original size of a vertical 19" but I was wondering if vertical games are even playable on such a setup. I might be getting a console with a 19" horizontal monitor that I plan on converting to MAME use and was hoping to not have to upgrade the monitor (at least for now) if it is working and still be able to play my favorite vertical games. Thanks.

Try it on your PC. Then you'll know.

People do it, but it just doesn't look *right*, you know what I'm saying?

Anubis_au:
I'd put the question to people like holdennut and hbm*rais, both of whom built Aussie lowboys (same design I'm going to use in my cab).

An Aussie lowboy only fits a 20" screen, so they'd be very well placed to offer an opinion of how the vertical games look on horizontal screens of that size.

Unfortunately, I haven't bought my 20" screen yet for my setup, so I'm not quite yet able to tell you. Plus I'm still tossing up whether to get ambitious and make it rotate within my cab... but, I'm curious to know what others think, in case mine also gets left in a horizontal orientation permanently.

Vertical games on a horizontal arcade monitor will have the top and bottom of the screen cut off a bit.  If you can live with it...it's not that bad.  It sort of sucks playing Ms. Pac Man and not knowing how many men you have or your score because the top and bottom are cut off....
