Joust joystick knobs

ElfShotTheFood:
I have a pair of knob and shafts from a joust game but not the bases for them.  i was wondering if anybody knows of a joystick base that would use these shafts.  i am hoping for a nice 4 or 8 way base to use these with in my cab.

they are 1/4" diameter at the bottom and 2" from the bottom of the ball to the end of the shaft.

compared to the happ super shaft these things are tiny.

I've got some kind of a Wico knockoff that uses ABOUT the same size sticks, as viewed from above.
I don't think the Joust ones are long enough to use on any of the 4/8-way bases that used the smaller diameter sticks though.

I've got one of those too.  They look just like the regular Wico knockoff sticks, except they use a little tiny handle with a smaller ball and a cone-shaped actuator.  I've been told that they are actually OEM Taito sticks for games from around the Frontline era.  I don't have confirmation on that, but if so, I think they might be the actual source for the molds that produced the Wico knockoffs we see for sale everywhere.

so, i'm probably gonna have to macguyver something together for these.  maybe some steel tubing or something.  but how to do it without damaging the shafts?

Those were originally 2 way sticks, also like in Defender, Stargate and Moon Patrol.
Is the difference in size small enough that you can just wrap the lower part of the bases in electrical tape until you get a snug fit? If its just enough that there is no play, but the fit is not so tight that you have to jam them in and damage the tape, it will last for a long time in a home use situation.
