T-Molding

Hey all,

Anyone know what stores carry T-Molding?  I bought some from Happ and its to small, around 1/8th of the trim is not covered.  Not very noticable but it will bug th heck out of me.  Dont care to order online again as i'd like to guarantee what i buy works.

Many people, including myself, have had luck with t-molding.com, if you want to give the online thing another try.  Measure twice, order once.

Good luck finding it locally; I've never had much luck. A very well-stocked woodworking store or a lumber yard that caters to cabinet builders might have it... but I wouldn't count on it.

I'd suggest you get some free samples from T-molding.com to determine the correct width for your project. Then measure carefully and place your order. Remember: much of their T-molding is shipped in 20-foot coils. Keep that in mind when ordering.

Would t-molding.com also be a good source for the slot cutter bit or should I buy from someone else?

If you're looking for a quality bit, check this post Nitewalker wrote.  I followed his advice and have been very happy with the purchase.

Yet they show a picture under the picture of the t-mold and it always says the t-slot is 3/32"

You want a 1/16" slot cutter bit.

In the picture under the t-molding they show you a width of 3/32" as the total width of the spine with the edges on it.  If you put a 3/32" slot on your CP, the t-molding will just about fall out as you've got no pressure to hold it in place.

With a 1/16" (= 2/32") bit, though, you've got to compress the t-molding when you put it on, so its got something to help hold it on the panel.

Okay I get it. 3/32" is the manufactured size and 1/16" is the size to fit into so it can grab the insides of the wall. Should glue be used on it as well for a better hold?

Don't worry about the fit. If you cut the slot properly you'll actually need a rubber mallet or something similar to get the t-molding in the slot. It's a really tight fit.

Yo NightWalker flooring or counter top supply store sometimes have some laying about (at least the one I worked at did in Oakland. They sometimes use it with formica as an edging on commercial jobs, but its a shot in the dark with color and size.
