Switch Question

(1/2) > >>

Trebeck:
Hey all,

Quick question...
On a PC the power switch clicks twice when turned on.  What kind of switch is this?

 ???

Beck

Kevin Mullins:
Does it click twice again to turn it OFF ?

Kremmit:
PC's made in the last several years have a "momentary contact" switch.  Older ones used a push-to-toggle switch.

Trebeck:
hmmm. OK here's what it does.

turn on
if you push thebutton it has two clicks and it powers up fine.
if you hold the button it will turn on then off after about 4 sec.

turn off
push the button (two clicks) won't do anything.  I guess this is a safety feature for when you hit it with your shoe.
Hold it in and it will power off after about 4 sec.

Is this a momentary contact switch?

See I am looking for illuminated switches to make my new cab look sweet.  But I think most of them are simple on/off switches.  This is OK as I have one on my cab right now.  But the trick is you have to throw the switch to "on" then "off" so it won't power down after 4 sec.  This is very confusing to newbies.

Know what I mean?

Beck

Extreme8:
Yep, that's a momentary contact switch
