which 4-way? Super/Reunion/Ultimate
juggle50:
Well, not to make things more confusing but for my 4 way I use an old used original Pacman leafswitch joystick (with new grommet) and love it. It plays most classics just like I remember and even has some quirks just like the beat up machines I played on when I was a kid. They built them to last back then and it does take quite a bit of room (although there are ways to retrofit it) and is tough mounting on a wood control panel. But to me worth it.
I think you've got find what your absolute favorite game is and use the original joystick/s from that (both 4 way and 8 way) for the most original feel. There seem to be many versital joysticks out there which may be what you want. You've just got to realize that it's sort of "Jack of all trades master of none" sort of thing.
Good luck

FWIW, Defender and Stargate are the only two games that originally used a 2-way that I don't prefer playing with buttons.
