Sorry, nothing against you. I always think that's amusing when people say that.

You're going to regret it in a few years. I used to do that and it got to the point where everybody expected me to fix their PC either free or on the cheap (usually free). It's OK when you're still learning, but when you eventually have to make a living, it doesn't work out. I did it for a bit longer on the premise that I would build a "potential job network". I was slow to realize that if any of those ---uvulas--- actually knew someone that could land me a job they wouldn't be coming to me for PC work, they'd be going to them. :banghead:

It's a bit like moving to Hollywood in the hopes you can land that acting job or to get your killer movie script accepted. People have done it, but not enough to make the effort really worth while.

Nowadays, when most people ask me to fix their ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, I tell them I don't work on anything other than CP/M.

back to subject in hand!

im using a very very old PC for my arcade machine, this is because it has ISA slots and therefore can support my very old ISA soundcard which i must say is amazing for all the old DOS games.

Duke Nukem 3D, Stonekeep, and a few other classics.

and the point is i just decided to take the fan off the processor for some reason and now when u first turn teh computer on it sort of makes a very loud noise! it quiets down after a while but i just wonder why it does this????

Dead power supply fan bearings...... I have one that does that, and has been doing it for two years. The only reason I haven't fixed it is because I just can't be bothered. You could strip it down and change the fan or fans out in the power supply and it will shut up.
