Hacking Pole Position wheel to USB?

(1/3) > >>

shorthair:
I just got this Pole Position wheel and wanted to make it usb compatible.  I guess I could do a mouse hack, right?  Well, I happen to have this PC wheel with pedals and would like to hack this for use with the PP wheel.  Note, in the picture below, the PC wheel appears to use a small pot (in green), with two wires coming off it to the board.  Can I just connect these to the PP wheel?

Texasmame:
Just do the mouse hack to the PP wheel.

I mean, no need to go reinventing the wheel!!!

Sorry, but PC wheels with potentiometers do not mix with 360 degree arcade wheels with optical encoders.

If you post a pic of the existing optics on your PP wheel, we'll see what you have to do to get it hacked to a mouse.  There are two varieties of PP optics, one version hacks easily, the other pretty much requires a replacement optic.

Okay.  So, originally, I didn't have the PP wheel, just showed a picture of the auction, but now I have it.  My camera is she-ttae, so you can't see how dingy it is.  I just cleaned it up, so that it wasn't nasty to use, but other than that, that's it.  The board was sent detached - it's pretty grimy, too - and will see how it works, but may end up just getting one of those new boards that fixumdude has....if he still has any. (This isn't necessarily an ambitious project, but I may put it up on that board.) In any case, here's the photos...
