Cocktail "Flipping" Mode

Lilwolf:
Also, you might want to print out the list and cross out the games you don't like (or try them).  And go with what you really like.

Cross out ones that require controls you don't have.

Also, lots of non-cocktail games run great on a cocktail... just without swapping sides.

I personally think that cocktails should be vertical... And possibly add a 3rd controller on the side.  Or maybe add something that can attach to the side and plug in?  Seems like you could do something...

I have a few machines and am about to start on a cocktail table.  I'm going vertical on the cocktail table and horizontal on a standup.

The tool I'm using can do that for you; just change the search criteria:

rl -in:allgames.xml -out:mygames.xml -find:"(joy4way | joy8way) & cocktail & (rotate=90 | rotate=270)"

Or whatever you need.  You can even find only the games that support the number of buttons you have or even remove the clones from the list:

-find:"(joy4way | joy8way) & cocktail & (rotate=90 | rotate=270) & (buttons=3 | buttons=2 | buttons=1 or !buttons=) & !cloneof"

that'll find all the cocktail, vertical, non-cloned games that use 8way, 4way or 2way (mame lists 2way joysticks as 8way for whatever reason) and any button combination from 0 buttons up to 3.   whew! ;D

Not that I'm trying to push the program onto anyone or anything.  ;)

I 100% agree.  I have a vertical cocktail machine myself, and easily a majority of the ROMs (especially classics) are vertical.  I want to add players 3+4 to the side of my machine someday.  I gotta have joust and robotron.

BTW: gauntlet, even though horizontal and non-cocktail, is perfectly playable on a vertical cocktail machine.  You just need to remap the controls so that each player's controls work for their sitting position.  THe only thing that's difficult is reading the text, but it's not that tough to get used to.

FrizzleFried:
Are there any MAMED "vs" type game where both players sit across from each other attempting to best one another?  Sports games?   A vs. Asteroids or tank type game?

londonbabe:
Tetris, for starters.

the only actual "head to head" game that i have come across today is called "laser' each guy sits on one side and shoots toward the middle...
