Cocktail "Flipping" Mode
FrizzleFried:
I tried to look this up on MAWS with no success...
Does anyone have a list of games that support "cocktail" screen flipping for 2nd player?
I am trying to determine if I should go with a horizontal monitor setup or go with a vertical monitor for my cocktail table...if the majority of games are vertical, I will go that route, if the majority of games are horizontal...I have some thinking to do.

Good question. Got me to thinking about the cocktail cabinet my older son and I just finished (a Dreamarcades kit).
It turns out so far that of all the game's we've tried on there, almost every one that we liked is a vertical. So we use the end-to-end controls the most. About the only use the side-by-side controls get is for Gauntlet (favorite of the five-year-old) and Joust.
I put a single trackball on one end (mostly for wife to play Centipede). So for Missle Command, I play it rotated to vertical and (horrors!) stretched to fill the screen.

I would like to see a list as well. You can always add a 3rd CP so you don't have to play a horizontal game on a vertical screen.
FrizzleFried:
I have an oldschool Atari cabinet...so the CP's are already on the "horizontal side"...a single CP on the vertical side would look a bit strange. I already have 2 stand up cabs (one vertical and one horizontal)...so this is more something to play around with. I was considering going horizontal as I am going to use a PC monitor and I could surf, watch videos, etc if I did that...but if the majority of cocktail games are vertical, that would leave a very small playfield for the majority of the games designed for the cabinet which would be silly...i'd go with the vertical layout and forget the PC based games, etc.

[edit: list removed! I used the wrong parameters on the search criteria. :-[]
This list was generated with my uber-ninja mutant tool called RL from MAME 111's XML file.

Using the commands:
rl -in:allgames.xml -out:vertcocktail.xml -find:"cocktail & (rotate=90 | rotate=270)"
and then rl -in:vertcocktail.xml -out:list.txt -d
In other words, find all the games that have "cocktail" something (most likely a dipswitch) and vertical orientation on the monitor.
There may be a few stragglers, but I think this hit the majority of them.
