not sure if ive asked about this before or not. my mame cab is in the tropics and i seem to have quite a few probs with ram. i know this because the first time i discovered ram doesnt like the tropics, i came back from holidays and mildew was growing on it! mostly if you push the card in and out of the slot a couple of times it seats cleanly again (unless there was mildew on it, then the ram is a write off  >:().

is there some tropical solution? other than NEVER turning the machine off? like maybe gold plated edge connectors or something, i dunno...

Hi Danny,

It doesn't get much more tropical than Rio de Janeiro  ;), and I never had a problem with mildew on my cabinet.

Maybe your cabinet don't have enough non forced ventilation. It should have enough openings to keep it "airy" when the fans are not working.

Try cleaning the contacts with a rubber eraser. It sometimes helps with old memories.

Also, I heard it somewhere that you should not use memories with golden edges with mobos that have silver edges and vice versa. Supposedly the chemical reaction between the two different metals can cause problems.

Well, I'm not in Florida anymore (Indiana now), but I feel your pain with the humidity.  When I lived there I actually kept most of my tools indoors since they would rust so bad in the garage.  We kept the house air conditioned though, so I never had any problems with electronics.  Is the space where your game is not climate controlled?  If so....or even if it is...perhaps you should invest in a dehumidifier...

dehumidifier  :laugh2:

our house is a tropical design, which means its designed to let as much air through as possible, the down side of which its pointless having aircon or dehumidifiers etc  :( . the times ive had probs with memory was when the machines (one pc and my mame cab) were not used for weeks at a time. since i dont live with my mame cab now  ill just have to instruct the tenants to play it more...

and whammoed, i feel for YOU about the tools. when i was looking for stuff to bring back with me i found pretty much all non chromed tools in the shed were totally rusty...

Havok:
What about throwing an open box of baking soda in there, or try and find a large silica gell pack?
