Diamond Stealth ATI 9550 AGP 128MB Video Card - $24 shipped after rebate

<< < (2/3) > >>

jWin:
the ATI component dongle on 9x00 cards causes screen flickering on text and lines, which isnt as noticeable in games but its still there.   ATI x1k cards or Nvidia 6/7 series have no flickering.   I have a ATI Radeon x1950pro and tried it out yesterday with component and the picture was solid, trying to pick up a cheaper x1300 now to try out.

I tried a nvidia 7 series (7300gt) with component and couldnt get a color picture, black and white only so id recommend the ATI more at this point.

It's not $20 it's  $24 + shipping...... because at $24 it then falls under the limit for free shipping.  That's also only assuming that you can get the rebate! Anybody outside of the US is not entitled to the rebate.....Otherwise, double the price.

Like I said... If you're ONLY going to use it for Mame then it might suit you....

My 256Meg 9600XT came off e-bay.... Shop arround and have a bit of patience. It took me two months to get one at a realistic price for my cab. Got outbid on about 10 or more cards before I landed a good one. As you're looking for quality on a very low budget, that's the way to go. Patience my young Padwan.

I've never noticed this, where did you get the info? Is it only at higher resolutions?
I'm using it a 640x432 with MaLa and have never noticed any type of flickering.

Shipping is factor against the before rebate price, which is 44, which if my math services right is more than 25 bucks, so shipping is free.  I am not going to debate the rebate as there is just way too many personal preference, but I will say that nowadays if you want something cheap, rebate is something that one must consider.  And yes, this is only good in the USA.

TOK: I own a ATI 9500 and the dongle, have had it for many years and it has always had jittery flicker with interlaced resolutions, theres been many others on this forum who have made posts about it as well.  It is more difficult to notice in games but easily noticed on the windows desktop with text.  Maybe its just my old card at fault or maybe its the SDTV im using but I know others know what im talking about.

svideo looks fine/great btw, im just referring to component connection.

edit: to add I was referring to 640x480 resolution - the newer cards can do 640x480 without jitter,  I use 640x480 on my SDTV and it fits the screen perfectly with the service menu adjustments.
