Saw one of those multicade $499 models yesterday
« on: December 22, 2006, 07:18:03 am »
Sorry guys, wasn't sure where this post went

I happened to see one of these cheapo, pre-fab cabinets at JC Penny's yesterday, of all places.  It was on sale at 50% off so I stopped to try it out.
My first thought after messing with it for five minutes was "You wanted $499 for this arcade machine?"

         :laugh2:  :laugh2:  :laugh2:  :laugh2:  :laugh2:  :laugh2:

My second thought was "Give the $499 to me and I'll build you one look twice as nice and last three times as long!"  God, what a piece of junk!
The marquee was a simple piece of cardboard, over which was inscribed the Midway label.   The monitor / TV that was installed in it was a piece of crap as well (anybody ever seen a GREEN Wizard of Wor player on the first level?).  The buttons and joysticks were virtually useless they were recessed so far into the control panel.

Just amazing the things people would rather have.

Well...Most people do know any alternative.  Nor the skills to build or refurbish one.

Yes, it is junk...but I would still like to have the game unit out of it to put in a real taito cab.  ;D

You can buy a working cabinet for less that not with some looking.  These things are total garbage.  I can't think of were I saw one last but I busted out laughing. :laugh2:  I was playing on of those knock-off bestbuy pinball machines and I swear to god I couldn't beleave this thing existed.  The buttons didn't even work and when they did they had lag.  Come on LAAAAG.  All this kinda of stuff belongs in the dump.

That's hilarious. A lagging pinball button.  :laugh2:

Boy, would that make me uptight and quick. Especially when you try to save the ball from going down the middle.

I've played "real" pinball machines with laggy flippers. A broken flipper mechanism is a broken flipper mechanism and even commercial grade pinballs are susceptible to it!
