How the hell do you drill through steel control panels?

<< < (2/2)

Bobbler:
Thanks Xiaou2.
Think my problem was going straight for the biggest bit rather than starting out with a smaller one first. Will have to wait on my new bits arriving tomorrow/Saturday as I think I have completely shafted the size I need.
Was worried that I needed some special drill or bits to do it which would equal expensive and not the sort of thing I have spare cash around for with Christmas and a holiday coming in the next few weeks.

ChadTower:

Keep in mind that if you have a crappy drill, that's a problem too.  I once tried cutting CP holes with a $30 cordless drill.  It didn't go well.

whammoed:
I have cut many holes in 16 guage metal panels.  When using hole punches use a step bit for the pilot hole.  They don't have to be very expensive, try harbor freight.  Haven't dulled one yet...
Also use a little oil when drilling.

Paladin:
Sorry, it was early and I didn't read all of the post before responding.

Now that I've read it, I say try a lightsaber!

Sorry, couldn't resist... :lame:
