Graylite 14 sparkly?

(1/1)

Shoegazer:
Hi - I just got a piece of graylite 14 smoked glass for my cabinet a few weeks ago, and after mounting it I noticed a "sparkly" effect, which is most visible when set against a totally white background.  The effect appears as if it were sprayed with an atomizer and not wiped away.  I've tried wiping both sides of the glass, scraping it off, nothing.  I actually got TWO pieces of graylite (since one was free) and they both exhibit this same problem.

Has anyone else seen this, and if so, is there a fix?  I've contacted the glass company about it, and they say they cannot take returns and "can't understand why I'd mount it against a light anyway" (yeah, big help there).  So I figured I'd turn to you good people with any suggestions you may have...

Thanks,
Darren "shoegazer"

It sounds like the glass edge was not sanded and polished and is causing light to be projected all around.  Hard to really say from here.

Shoegazer:
Actually the "sparkly" effect I'm experiencing is evident all over the surface of the glass - like someone sprayed really tiny droplets of water.  Weird...

The sparkly effect definitely isn't something I've noticed before with that particular brand. I went from 14 to 31, just to lighten up and brighten up a bit and I haven't noticed that with either personally. If you're talking about how there's almost a little bit of a color warp that happens on real light backgrounds, almost seems wavy/patterned, I have seen a little of that depending on game, but that depends on monitor too.

I think you should listen to Tommy, and not just because he is a Giants fan. If light is getting in the sides of the glass, then it could be bouncing around inside the glass and causing an effect throughout the piece.
