Question to RandyT or anyone else in the know. USB 1 or 2

(1/2) > >>

MYX:
I am about to start hooking up my stuff shortly and am wondering if it maters if I use USB 1 or 2. I know that all LED voltave is supplied through the USB. I did not know if the 1 or 2 mattered. the USB on my motherboard is USB 1 but can easily buy a card if need be.

Also is there a better usb hub to buy?

Tiger-Heli:
I'm assuming you mean USB 1.1 or USB 2.0.

From what I've read on the PowerMAME threads, the LED-Wiz is a USB 1.1 device, so you should do better with that setting, but if you get the latest (next - 104.2.0 - not released) PowerMAME it should work with any 2.0 device or hub.

Nvidia 2.0 and some Intel motherboard controllers were having problems.

Hard to say on hubs.  I've used cheap Adesso 4-port hubs in both 2.0 and 1.1 versions.  The 2.0 gave me fits under Win98 on one machine and seemed to work fine on another machine with the same brand/model motherboard  :banghead:

RandyT:

If you are 1.1 already, don't bother going to 2.0 for controls.  HID devices are "low-speed" USB devices and won't benefit from 2.0 at all (at least in a practical sense.)

Also, If you have to use 2.0, use a 1.1 hub just to avoid potential difficulties.

-Most- HID devices are low speed, 1.5Mb/s.  The specs allow for full speed, 12Mb/s, and there are advantages for devices such as arcade keyboard encoders with lots of buttons.  High speed USB 2.0 isn't much use for HID.

great this will save some moolah.
