Bad Trader Harpal - (split from: Bad Traders List - Please keep it clean)
Scott84:
They needed to sobpeona them because they needed to make sure that they got the information legally.... so the evidence wouldnt be thrown out...
But i wouldnt be surprised if the FBI already had all that information before... they just needed to follow the legal process...

I can possibly see it if the person's were on static ip's, but the simple fact is majority of people are on dynamic IP's that change constantly.

Your right Tim. I wish Osama had an IP address.
The fact of the matter is it appears Harpal has done a dirty deed. No matter what it takes - I hope he gets whats coming to him.

Ken claims he doesn't need me to vouge for him.
Oh well, I offered.

You're pulling out because of the comments of *one guy?*
Who cares what people think. I'm assuming you joined the FBI because you felt a need to do the right thing, right? It seems that doing the right thing in this case is helping those who got burned by Harpal. Leaving the others to twist in the wind because one guy said some stuff seems...I dunno...wrong.
It's not far fetched to think that law enforcement officials have a love of arcadey goodness too. Just recently I was talking (online) to someone I know is a cop, and they were telling me that he'd received one of those 'you sell object for $100, I send you $5000, send me the rest' scams. He had the guy send it to his work. Little does the guy know that his work is the police station! So if the scammer ever shows up at his work, he's in for a rude shock. :o
As for finding a guy from just his IP...sure, it's possible. Combination of social engineering and/or the law can get you that info. Get the IP, find out what ISP has that block. Subpoena them to find who had that IP at that particular time. Get their billing records. Viola.
Of course, that isn't perfect; as stated before, good luck getting that info from China or the like.
Last I knew, eBay - though they shouldn't - has given info out freely in the past, without a warrant or subpoena. Warrants aren't difficult to get though, esp. with probable cause.
So to sum up...back off, let Ken do his job, and that's it.
