So how does VirtualPC/ VMWare work, where do you get it ?

I've run into the same problem. Opening a DOS prompt from Windows XP and running tempest.exe shows the 'Atari Interactive' title screen, then it craps out with a "No EMS!" error. I right clicked on tempest.exe, select Windows 95 compatability mode, selected 8mb of EMS, XMS and DMPI memory, but it doesn't fix it. I'm out of ideas.

Have you tried dosbox? http://dosbox.sourceforge.net
I've had good luck running old dos games under it.

I've got both the Jaguar Tempest 2000 and PSX Tempest X3 emulated on my cab. X3 is the clear winner. Clearer graphics, more colorful, better and longer music. Plays exactly the same except the addition of one or two new enemies.
Either one is great but X3 has the edge.
Jag is emulated by a program called Project Tempest, IIRC, and PSX is on epsxe.

Dosbox works for me, but the sound effects in the PC version are crappy compared to the Jaguar and, I assume, PSX versions of the game. Have to get me a copy of that PSX version.
Also, I agree with RayB that the game is well tweaked for digital gameplay, but nowhere near the perfect control of the original Tempest. Also, I can't figure out how the rotary cheat could enable full analog control when the original Jaguar didn't have an analog controller.
Great game, don't get me wrong. I want it for my PSX.
Cheers,

Well, I didn't have the patients to try Dosbox anymore... so I just went and bought it for PS1 off e-bay... looking forward to comparing it to the Jag version.... I remember reading somewhere along the line that essentially if you hooked up an original atari indy controller (the one that didn't have a stop like the paddles) the code was built in to handle it.... I don't recall if you had to hack or could just plug it in.... I think its the same port.
Guess I'll have to find a Nuon machine at some point.

Sorry for dredging this one back up but i was wondering ( since i didnt really see a clear answer) does the jag emu Temp2000 work with a spiner? Or does the PSX one?
When I got my jag I could sit for 3-6 hours playing a single game of 2000 untill my fingers (or hould i say thumbs) hurt. Huge fan of tempest and after playing Old school I was looking at gettign the emulated stuff going, but if a spinner doesnt work, I just cant see playing on a joystick. Even though the Jag version was pretty sweet, with a spinner it would be even better IMHO.
