Vertical MAME32
« on: February 14, 2006, 05:30:22 pm »
This is for MAME32 users, or users of unofficial builds based on MAME32. I have an ArcadeVGA and I'd like to know if there's a way to make MAME32 gui rotate, so as to view the list of games correctly when I have my tv rotated. I think there's an option in the drivers that lets you rotate windows, but games won't load under MAME32 when that is enabled. It must be some kind on incompatibility. I wonder if there is any build to have a rotating gui or any frontend which is exactly the same as MAME32 but with the ability to be displayed vertically.

I had the same problem and eventually settled on 3DArcade. It's default configuration is in horizontal mode however with a little bit of work it can quite easily boot up in a vertical mode.

BTW I went through about 10 frontends and a couple of rotation programs before I this mind you.

I went through several FE's (not as many as 10 ...)  and I'm using Kymera.. Easy setup and simple to get running rotated vertically.   So many choices in FE's.. everybody likes something slightly different.. :)

If your graphics card supports rotation "irotate" is also an excellent and very simple rotational software program.  I've used pivot pro successfully in the past, but some people have said that it can do some weird things sometimes.

Pivot Pro flat out refused to work on my system, it would rotate the screeen but would not work when playing a game. If I remember rightly it messed with Direct draw and no amount of tinkering with the settings got me a rotated mame menu and games that would have the right colours and fill the screeen.

get irotate.  It should work like a charm.   http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/iRotate.shtml

Thanks for the link to the Free download.
However it is no more than a frontend for your rotate compatible video-cards it doesn't actually do the work itself. This explains why the file is so small.
So in my case with a Nvidia card it has the same problems on some games as before. Thanks anyway   :D

Yeah, it is pretty much just a fe however,  It's supposed to be more stable than the nvidia interface for the driver.  Howard Castro is pretty much the rotation expert.  Here is the link regarding the benefits.

I use ATI though and have no problems.
