Need a little help with MAMEWAH
« on: February 12, 2006, 07:19:26 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I orginally posted this on the mameworld arcadeos/mamewah forum, but there isn't much activity over there....

I've hit a little snag in setting up MAMEWAH. When I reboot the PC, I get one game to run once, but then I get the following picture when I select any game (including the one that just ran):

It appears to be the dosbox just hanging there against my windows desktop.

hitting CTRL ALT DEL brings this:

This picture shows that MAMEWAH and MAME are running, but the the 'transition' is not quite made. Hitting Alt-Tab allows me to select MAME and continue with the game.

My PC specs are:

PC Chips M760V Motherboard
Soundblaster PCI card (CT4730)
Onboard Video SiS6326
Pentium II 266 MHz
256MB PC100 RAM
10GB HD
Windows 98SE (all updates installed from Windows Update)
.NET 1.1 installed
DirectX9.0C installed

The games all run fine when typed from the command line.

I have MAME 0.103 (Command Line version installed).

I used the same .ini files on my main desktop pc (Barton 2500, 512MB, etc.) and it ran like a dream. Is 266MHz my problem? I have a 450MHz on the way from an eBay auction - maybe that'll help??

Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.I have read a lot of posts, but can't seem to make any progress with this - I'm ready to pull my hair out and I don't have a whole lot left. I have read up on other frontends, but MAMEWAH seems to be the most popular and therefore, I'd like to get it up and running before resorting to others. Sorry for the long first post, but I'm hoping the extra info will help solve my problem.

Cheers!  :)

Im not sure if this will help much, if at all, but it is a known fact that MAMEWAH does not "like" to run on 98SE :P.  I think Minwah may be able to diagnsoe the issue better than me, so Id suggest waiting for him.  Additionally, check out the documentation on his page, as I think he talks about 98 a bit there.  Searching the board for Windows 98 + Mamewah may also reveal some unseful information.

Just double checking but you did also download and install the 'system files' zip as well as the mamewah one?.
I didn't touch it....honest!

Thanks for the help everyone.

Changing "{nosafelaunch}" to "{safelaunch}" as Minwah suggested in the link above worked like a charm!

Thanks to all who helped!

Cheers

Id swear the first time I read that you mentioned playing with the commandline flags  ;D
