More Cowbell:
Will the Viper recommendations work for Windows 2000 as well?
gonzo90017:
Sorry. I'm only familiar with XP.
juggle50:
Gonzo,
Do you notice a considerable difference to the CPU using GameX. I'm all for giving more CPU to MAME but if the difference is just minimal than I don't think it would be worth it.
thank you for your help
TOK:
I used the Black Viper page as a guide and while it didn't make any difference in the speed the games run (like making those slowpokes like Cruisin' USA playable), it cut a huge amount off the boot time. My machine boots in just under 30 seconds. It was nearly a minute and a half before disabling the unnecessary services.
gonzo90017:
It doesn't actually make a huge difference if say you have 512mb of memory and or a very fast CPU 2.0+ But people shouldn't be scared to use it since it has a restore function so if you mess up you can just restore it. It makes a restore within the program automatically every time you use it. If you just UNCHECK SERVICES in the options everything should work fine.
Here is a list of services I have disabled on my computer. It's the one i'm typing this from.
