Joystick Reccommendation
hartdre:
Hi.
I'm am looking to buy a couple of joysticks for my MAME arcade. I played Street Fighter Alpha 3 at an arcade and wanted one's like that. They were fast, moved quickly to their max with minimum pressure and returned quickly to their centre. Ideal for faster games. I have a Wico 8-way leaf-switch joystick, it is hard to move and I really don't like it (damn my weak wrist! :P ). Also, I would prefer a ball-top. Can anyone recommend one?
Thanks for your time,
Drew

I like the ultimate joystick from happcontrols. I have read that Capcom went to happcontrols to design a joystick for Street Fighter 2 and that is what they came out with. I use it in my Street fighter 2 arcade game and my mame machine. I like it alot, its a good 8 way joystick. Good for fighting games and pretty much any other game I play on mame other then games that require a 4 way joystick (pacman, etc). Here is a link to it. Hope this helps. Good luck. http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/ultimate_joy.htm

No offenese, but the Ultimates are pretty bad joysticks.
You'd be much better off with a Happ Super or Happ Competition (although Supers seem to be prefered by fighter fans who need a more circular motion for special moves). Or if you're a big fighter fan, you can get a Happ Perfect 360. A ton of fighter fans swear by those sticks.
Other than those, you could get a Sanwa stick which i think are what the newer Tekken 5 machines use. The come in balltops and again, are huge favorites for fighter fans.
Stay away from those Ultimates though.

If you liked the ones they use at the arcade, chances are that's a super. Grade A stick.

I will happily trade you a Super for the Wico, if you want. Wicos are great sticks, but fighter players seem to hate them. I don't play fighters, so it works out.
If you want to buy a new stick instead, I think a lot of the serious fighter players are moving to Sanwa and Semitsu sticks. www.himuragames.com
