Project "Game Time", GB Packers Theme
« on: December 10, 2005, 06:05:05 pm »
I'm long overdue for posting this, but I am building a cabinet for SportsWizDan, with a Green Bay Packers theme to it.  We went back and forth on everything quite a lot, but here's what I am building for Dan:

The concept (a very solid 2-piece design):

The artwork:

And a few photos of the progress:

More photos when it's finished (which should be soon!)

The cabinet looks good so far, but I would much rather it be the Vikings instead of the Packers. ;D

The artwork is really well done, did you use photo shop?

For all of you people out there thinking of buying anything from Matt (Mr. Bubblehead), I would highly recommend him. He does awesome work and is very easy to talk with and listens to exactly how you want something built. As for the reply of the Vikings above, ummmmmmmm how many World Championships and Super Bowls have they won?  ;) HaHa

Personally, I think it's a sin to associate any cab with any sports team. Really, what do sports have to do with arcades? Maybe it's just because I'm not a big sports fan...

Other than that, it looks pretty good. I have always been a fan of the neo-geo look.

You think that might be the reason........ ;D

I think it's a great design. How did you clamp the panels so elegantly?

Other than changing it to a NY Giants theme you really should have Bret Favre on the side.

What resolution is the photo for the side panel? I was wondering because I think about the picture loss when blowing anything up to that size. I'd like to do one of these, but proper in ORANGE and BROWN! Woof!

Is that artwork completed already?  I ask because the "G" is NOT right.  If you've got the rest of it laid out like shown, stop what you're doing and get the "G" right.  Mr Starr is a nice man, but I believe if he saw that, even he'd lose his mind and kick your ass.

;) ;D

I've got several, and I may have one in EPS if I can find the damn thing again, if'n you'd like.  That one looks like it was ripped from the Heaven's Gate folks ;)  See if you can find a Georgia or old Grambling one as well if you're having problems getting one

Brett's on the CP.  I'd like to see different players on either side, perhaps Starr on one side, and ol' #66 on the other side?

I hate to be tearing up that artwork, as it's fine just as it is...just take this as wanting the artwork to be more than just artwork.

And all you haters can make your own cabs with your teams on 'em.  I'm sure you can find Jan Stenerud pics somewhere to throw on your ViQueens cab or...well, there aren't many other ViQueens players I can think of that you'd be proud to claim. ;D

     Hey Everyone...

First of all, Bart Starr is on the right side panel and Brett Favre IS on the left side panel (Matt Didnt show this artwork pic) Matt post the Favre side art pic!!! On the Marquee, I have bart Starr, Brett Favre, Ray Nitschke and Reggie White, who are my favorite Packers of all time. My 2 favorite are Starr and Favre, so thats why they are on the side and control panels. As far as sports and video games not going together I have to disagree. I'm a huge sports fan (especially the Packers) and my whole rec-room is done up in the green and gold of the Packers! This will fit in there just perfectly and I can also enjoy my favorite hobby of video games right along with that. You CAN NOT beat sports and video games TOGETHER as a combination. It is like thunder and lightning...LOL...

 Hey Drew...

I think you are right about the Packers "G" above Bart Starr on the right side panel art. If you could send a more detailed one to me or Matt, that would be great. Matt, maybe you could swith out the "G" when we get the one from Drew before you send it out to the printer.

Thanks, Dan

The buttons are way to far apart.  You should fix that.  Other then that the art looks great

;D  But c'mon.  Right is right, right?  That'd be like making OSU's "O" a rounded one.  From what I can tell, I'm thinking it's supposed to look 3D, but it leapt off the screen at me.  I heard something going off in my head too...sounded like "WARNING, WARNING!  DANGER WILL ROBINSON!" ;D

These are too large to attach to the forum, but the Brands of the World site has these for download.  They'd stretch the forum width, so just click the following for links to the web pages and you can figure out what one will be easier to work with and whatnot.

Green Bay Packers - Plain Green/White

Green Bay Packers - Green/White/Yellow little nicer version to me

Georgia's "G" (remarkable the similarity, eh?)

The colors on the Georgia one could easily be changed, but since they've got 2 versions of the Packers "G", I suspect you won't need to use the Georgia one at all.  Just giving you another one to tinker around with.

How were the images for the sideart done?  Seems durn near impossible to enlarge images to that size and keep the detail.  That'd be something I think piles of us would be interested in.  Now that you hate me ;D

A sin, huh? I think it's a great idea. Besides, like there aren't countless others that revolve their cab design around something unrelated to arcade games. Oh BTW, there are some football arcade games.

A theme around a sports team is great for a game room in someone's house. I've thought of doing one that way, but mine would be the Vikings.

I was also wondering how you got the side art pictures so nice. I have been tinkering with a couple of different sports ideas, including a Brewers theme and a Packers theme.

OK, here's the deal.  The artwork was done in Photoshop, with the internet images (submitted by Dan) scaled up with Genuine Fractals.  They are not the best quality, hence the opaque green overlay on them.  The artwork looks good though, as long as you don't stand six inches away and stare at it for twenty minutes.

The "G" on the sideart is the same one that is on the control panel, so it that one incorrect too?

Regarding the buttons on the control panel, they are not exactly to scale in the image.  They will be ergonomically spaced for maximum comfort and gaming enjoyment.

And the Packers billiard ball idea would be sweet as &@#*!  I'll have to run that by Dan, hopefully he likes it.

Well, I've had a lot of stuff come up in the past few months so I took a break from the hobby for a while, but I thought I would update this thread with more current photos of the project.  I got the artwork and controls, and have since installed them:

I just have a few more things to do - add a metal panel around the front of the CP to hide all the guts and also mount pinball buttons, install the slide-out keyboard drawer, monitor glass, and t-molding, and add a plexiglass overlay on the panel.

Whats with the trackball?  Is it transluscent?  Is it orange?  How'd you swing that?

It looks kind of orangish in the photo, but the trackball is actually a solid yellow one, like the buttons below it.  I also have a translucent yellow one, but it just didn't look right in there.

Hey everyone...

Mr Bubblehead is just about finished with my cabinet. He sent me this updated picture, thus my question for all of you. On the black bottom base of the cabinet, do you think it would look better with black T-mldg, rather than the green T-Mldg??? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated, as are any other comments. ;D

Thanks, Dan

I like the green T-molding it gives the cabinet a nice flare.

I would go with green T-molding.
