Area 51, Crossbow, Police Trainer, Mamewah?
Farmboy90:
I have searching thourgh the forums for info on the best light guns. Seems everyone says the only way to go is the Act-Labs stuff. I checked out their new guns and they are $99 a piece!
I guess I don't mind paying that much if they really work well. I plan on using Mamewah as my frontend which just kanuches regular old mame.exe.
With two of the new Act-Lab USB TV guns, mamewah/mame, will I be able to play games like Area 51, Police Trainer, etc?
Also, and most importantly, will I need to do any configuration of anything, or do I simply unpack the guns, plug them in the USB ports, and start shooting?
Thanks!

Mamewah isn't your problem. It's just a menu system. Mame handles the inputs.
Your problem is Win XP doesn't support 2 mice devices.

Crossbow is technically an analog joy game.
Having played a few actual Exidy shooters at auction (and way back in 1984), I would have to say that they are better with a trackball than with the correct controls.

I have a newer ACT Labs light gun, ArcadeVGA + Betson monitor and it works fine...
You will have to do more than just plug it in... depending upon the game you will need to adjust your mame ini files accordingly... Also the ACT Labs gun does not favor the odd ball arcade resolutions... stick with 640x480 and hwstretch 1 for all your shooter games...
its trial and error...
BTW: I though I wanted those old Exidy shooter games until I tried them... they did not "age well". When I was little I thought they were great... not now.

Wow, so XP sees the guns as mouse devices? This seems like a big problem. Is there no solution to this problem? Don't the guns come with their own software or drivers to solve this problem?
