hacking happs controls to a wireless gamepad

J-Rod:
Okay, I am thinking about maybe trying to make a wireless box of true arcade controls to hook to my J-rcade.

I would guess that I can buy a wireless gamepad, gut the controller and wire that to the happs controls, and hack apart the end that connects to the PC, and wiring those contacts to the encoder. Of course it would entail alot of multimeter work methinks, but it seems viable. Do any of you know anyone that tried this? Comments or critiques are welcome.

On your J-rcade box, is the VGA card in the motherboard?  I notice there is no AGP board installed?

J-Rod:
Yes, video is onboard.

Probably not, but you shouldn't NEED to anyway.

The end that connects to the computer will most likely be a USB connector.
That will make the encoder unnecessary.
You should just need to hook the controls up to the guts of the gamepad, and use it AS a gamepad.

The only potential problem I see with this setup is that the gamepad may not like being stuffed into a box, and your signal strength may suffer.

J-Rod:
If's it's an RF signal, then no. Obviously if it's infrared it would have to be mounted so that it could beam. But yeah, duh. I didn't even think about the fact that the USB end wouldn't need to be hooked to an encoder, I shouldn't post after too many Crown and Cokes...  :) I think I will have to just buy an RF wireless gamepad and give it a go. Thanks for the input.
