I could be wrong, but I thought there was a Naomi version as well as the one you mention.
As I say, I'm probably wrong ::)

There was...... Soul Caliber was so popular after it's dreamcast release that it was re-released in the arcades. Since sega and it's naomi system were cheaper and almost exactly like the dc, they decided to go that route on the re-release rather than the bulky and expensive namco boards.
They did this with a lot of dc titles, including the odd choice of WWE Roal Rumble 2000, which marked the first arcade wrestling game in like 10 years.

Getting back on topic, I ecently checked out sc in mame .100 and they are getting closer. The sound is fixed now and the recent changes to mame seem to have sped things up considerably.
*IF* the broken polys and hit detection were fixed it would be playable in mame. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening anytime soon.

Soulcalibur can still earn well in "B" % "C" locations...I bought a board and have it in JAMMA cab...

That's encouraging news. I'm just glad that someday it might be possible MAME will run SC in all it's glory. When that happens I can finally have the entire canon of fighting games I grew up with all playable on one machine. :D
