Bubbles in CP overlay

<< < (2/2)

Ken Layton:
Was the surface properly prepared (cleaned and perfectly flat) before laying down the overlay?

Minwah:
Is that Happ vinyl?  It looks a lot like the stuff I have used on several parts of my cab.  I must say that I have never had this occur once stuck down, but I have taken a few attempts to apply it well.  On some occasions I had bubbles/ripples in the vinyl but was fortunate enough to be able to lift it off and re-apply.  Is it stuck to a painted surface or wood?  If it is on paint you might be lucky enough to peel it off and try again...

bravesfan:
It's on a painted surface.  THe bubbles did show up after I installed the trackball so I'll try to pull that out tomorrow and re-smooth it.   Does anyone think a heat gun might shrink it just enough?

NoOne=NBA=:
I'd try a blow-dryer, rather than a heat gun.
A heat gun may shrink it TOO much.

A combination of popping them with a pin, shrinking them slightly, and pressing them down, is probably your best bet.

Just be careful not to "tent" them.
That's when the vinyl sticks to itself in a wrinkle.
Those are pretty much impossible to remove, without cutting them out, and stretching the vinyl to cover the gap.
