49 way question

lesserChance:
So I recently Received my 49 way joystick, and I just ordered the rotary interface.  I already have an optipac is there a way to interface the rotary adapter with that or do I have to buy another interface board?  I tried to search but couldnt find an answer... sorry..

Kremmit:
I'm assuming you bought Fl0yd's mechanical rotary add-on kit for your 49-way.  The meat of that kit is a rotary 12-position electric switch.  Currently you can only interface those with a Druin's interface, or by connecting all of the contacts on the rotary switch as buttons and using Mame Analog+.  The Analog+ method only supports a few games, whereas the Druin's method works with all the mechanical rotary games.

The Optipac interfaces Optical rotary controls, like a mouse, trackball, spinner, or 360 degree steering wheel.  So it won't work for Fl0yd's kit.

lesserChance:
damn... nothing like spending $125 to get a joystick working... thanks

Didn't you look into the costs before you decided on the stick!?

lesserChance:
yeah, I first bought the stick and encoder for 75, and I figured that would be good enough.  Then I decided to get the rotary interface, and without really looking into it I bought that.  Now realizing I have to get the rotary encoder.  Oh well, Ill be able to play some good games now.
