Your bike looks like a lot of fun, and it really is in fantastic shape. I'm restoring a real classic, a 1963 Honda CB72 (great little bikes).

I talked to a guy about buying his Honda Spree.

It only had minor rock damage, mainly to his helmet and back, so the super sweet performance bike that is a Honda Spree is still in good shape.

No reply on any VIN numbers or how I might check to see if he's actually selling a legal super sweet performance bike that is a Honda Spree though, so I may have to keep looking.  I'm hoping to find a phatty-phat-phatso Yamaha Razz.  Those rock.  Even Bones will have to admit it after he finds a few pics of 'em.

It sucks to be having to pay almost 3 bucks a gallon.  I may have to replace my Cannondale I long ago parted with.  Meh.  I can live with rocks

Man... I have never heard of a Spree or a Razz! These sound like diet soda drinks to me and not the name of a bike a real man would ride.

$3.00 per gallon? Hah, I wish! This morning I paid $1.39 per litre. That works out to over $6.00 per gallon. It certainly adds up when you put $50 in the tank just to get to work for the rest of the week.   :(

I was just trying to buck up my American friends, since I knew we still get cheap gas even at the prices we pay, and someone would point it out for me just how cheap it is.  It's the Evil ConservativeTM in me  ;)

I'm gonna be looking into what it will require for me to start investing in oil shares.  I've simply GOT TO get started using these prices to my advantage.

Go ahead, look up those bikes.  I DARE ya.  One look, and you'll be all like "Ducatiwhut?"   ;) ;D

A friend of a friend is an insurance broker.

Best quote for basic liability is $840.

He's waiting for the appraisal, but he's thinking with theft (no collision) it'll be close to $1200.

$840 isn't bad.  But how pissed would I be if somebody walked away (or rode away) with my bike.

(I'll post again when I get some more numbers)

That best quote sucks ass.

I just got that bike quoted from Progressive online.

Your 12 month quote is        $316.00 (Liability).

Your 12 month quote is        $671.00 (Full coverage $250 deductible, with $3000 agreed value).

Progressives price on motorcycle and RV insurance seems unbeatable, they have always been half the price of the next lowest quotes I can get, and you don't need an appraisal, you can buy the policy RIGHT NOW.

Depends on the state, though.  Here in MA, rates are set by the state and you don't get a better price from one company than you could from another.  You can get better service, but the price is pretty much set across the board.

Is EVERYTHING in Massachusets set up to screw people over? I have yet to ever here of any special Massachusets laws that didn't seem specifically designed to keep poor people out of the state. What a beacon of democracy.

Kind of a pointless law really, as the kind of people who have trouble with auto insurance are the kind of people who can't afford to live in Massachusetts.

It's true.  My mother has had years where she couldn't afford to have a car at all.  It's not even the cost of the car, it's the cost of insurance that pushes it over the edge.  Young men get hit the hardest.  My 21 year old cousin was paying something like $4000/year for his insurance a couple years ago.

I'll take a look.  I also heard that State Farm offered good bike quotes.

The Canadian Dolars VS USD isn't really a fair comparison.

I mean, I make Canadian dollars and I have to spend them.  So $800 to me is still $800 to me.  If you were working in the US and somehow insuring a car in canada, then yes, you could convert.

My job would make me $50,000 here or $50,000 in the US.

Well, there is a reason there is a conversion rate, an American dollar buys more than a Canadian dollar.

Conversion rates are more about large scale transactions, commodities, that sort of thing.  It isn't really driven by consumers.

All I'm saying is that when an american looks at what I'm spending on insurance (say $800 cdn), they can't say "oh, he's only paying $640 US"  It doesn't really work that way.

I have been out of the MC game for a while, though I found myself checking out ads this weekend.  I was always a big fan of the KZ1000 line ala Mad Max.

I restored / rebuilt three including a Police Model, the old school version from Chips, not the new ones.

There is one bike that is hard to find and seems to appreciate every time I go looking for one, very cool and it has always been on my list, the 1982 Suzuki Katana 1000 / 1100 -

Here is a pic of a Katana

The cushmans are cool, and I will say that H2 minibike earlier in the thread is S-I-C-K.  I've "ridden" an h2 before, twisting the throttle is ls not unlike getting whacked in the back of the head with a sledgehammer.  The real fun comes when you try to brake....

I almost got into an accident on the way to work today because I had to try and go around some kid on a motorcycle the size of a loaf of bread.  It looked like he was riding his own genitals down the road because you couldn't see the bike.

That kid should be in porn.

As to that H2 minibike, it puts out 122 HP at the rear wheel. :o
Can this be correct?? It really doesn't sound right.....

Most 600cc and 750cc superbikes are only just producing this type of power.

Are superbikes two stroke or four stroke? The H2 was a 750cc two stroke triple. Stock H2s make about 80 HP at 10,000 rpm, though with head work, big carbs and expansion chambers it's not too hard to get 120+ HP out of one.

Everything worth owning these days is four stroke. Power delivery is much smoother, easier to ride hard and with less chance of high siding etc.

With the exception of some of the little sports 125's and 250's.

Agreed. The H1 & H2 had a wicked power curve and a willowly frame. The combination put the fear of God in more than a few riders, and earned the bike a rep as a widowmaker. Toss in insurance agents outright refusing to cover them, and a legend was born. ;)

All these motorcycle posts are making me covet one of those big Hondas from the late 70s that don't have a clutch but do have gears. I want one of those.

CB750A, aka the Hondamatic. Nice bike but rare as they were only made for three years. ('75-'77)

Yeah, that is the one. I hate clutches on bikes.

Everything worth owning these days is four stroke. Power delivery is much smoother, easier to ride hard and with less chance of high siding etc.
And you don't have to add oil to the gas!

About insurance, wow.  Here, in WI, for a year's worth of minimum full coverage if you are 27 with a 2000 Yamaha VStar Classic (650cc) is only $114.  When I was in Minneapolis it was $214.  When I first got the bike in 2000 it was like $370 with one speeding ticket on my record.

A friend of mine in Milwaukee just picked up a '92 Yamaha Seca II (600cc) and is paying the same as me.

My bike, yamaha R1 purchased new, myself being over 30 years old and no lost demerit points in 5 years plus a 60% no claim bonus, was $1800 per year to insure.
