MameWah, Exit Key Wrappers, & Fusion...
« on: July 28, 2005, 08:27:30 am »
It seems a lot of emu's suffer through this, and Fusion seems to do it as well as Gens.  I'd like to be able to designate a different key than ESC to exit the emulator.  Could this be a command like option or an ini option with a keycode for exit?

I am limited in the amount of buttons I have on my arcade cabinet's control panel, and I do not have ESC mapped to any of them (I have a Hotrod SE with standard MAME controls, no ESC).  So, if I need to exit an emulator that requires that key to be ESC, I'm outta luck, gotta pull out the keyboard.

I am using Fusion with MameWah.  At one point I had Gens working with Lazarus using Howard Casto's launch wrapper where you could specify a process kill key, but I don't believe the wrapper is cooperating with MameWah and Fusion.

Anyone have a solution?  Zsnes does this well, in allowing me to specify an exit key.  For most emulators I use "4", the right flipper/coin entry button.  Only in MAME do I have to use a 2-key combo.

I'm sure there are other emulators this problem plagues as well.  If anyone has a working MameWah ini with Howard's wrapper, or other solutions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

You might not want to add another button, but you can mod a HotRod to add an Escape button.  It's pretty easy, here's how I did it:

If you want to do it I think I still have some a spare connector you'd need you can have.  Maybe you could add a small hidden button somewhere...

Most people have an Escape button or shift button or whatever, so the emulator devs often stick to that.  Many of these devs are not too interested in making these kind of keys mappable...in fairness it's not really their priority.
