asteroids cab dimensions
CheffoJeffo:
Odd ... I pulled out the MJ beside the Asteroids today and said to myself "hmmm ... I still owe Danny Galaga those Asteroids dimensions" ...
I'll try to get to it soon.
Cheers.

ok, well ascar9 came up with many of the dimensions of his cab. ive drawn them up so its easier to follow. the drawing was done in paint, so its not to scale! be warned. the dimensions are as close as i could get. obviously A, B, C, E, G, H i dont have clear measurements of. these could probably be extrapolated in a drawing program.
im amazed there arent full dimensions out there. this is quite a classic cab. that and space invaders. anyway, here is what i can contribute (with much help from ascar). cheffo, if you can, can you compare to yours to see how close they are? i noticed two different dimensions in two different flyers for instance so who knows how many marks of cab atari made...
edit: i also don't have a dimension for the radiused corners, and so they appear angular in the drawing. i would need to have a cab to hazard a guess. the easiest way to measure them would be to use a few objects (like coins, glass tumblers, aerosol cans, etc) of different diameters to see which most closely fits the actual radius...

Just bumping his back to the top to remind myself ... once I drop the kids off and clear the morning workload, I'll drag her out and fill in the measurements and get the radial nmbers.
My apologies for letting this one slide so long. :(
Cheers

Yep .... :-\
OK ... here is what we have so far ...
A is 4.5"
B is 9.5"
C is 23"
D is 9.5", with the caveat that is measured on the side panel. If measured front-on, it is 8.5" (excluding marquee retainer) since the top and bottom of the marquee are each recessed by 0.5". You will notice that this doesn't jive with th existing measurements, so I remeasured using theoretical squared corners and I get 38.75 instead of 39.5 and 24.25 instead of 24 for the heights of floor to CP and CP to marquee.
E is 25.25"
With respect to F,G,H, what is the frame of reference for measuring ? There is the plexi bezel, which has a large, easy-to-measure viewable area and the inner folded cardboard bezel (shroud) that surrounds the screen and is tougher to measure.
On the other hand, if you are going to build using a standard black bezel and 19" monitor, you can simply center within the screen area as anything else would look odd.
What you may want to do is grab Zakk's Asteroids model and scale to a height of 72.5" as that is a prety solid measurement.
